My daughter was given the PlayGro musical flower when she was about one month old, and she was instantly mesmerised. I’m not sure if it was the goofy face on the flower, the bright contrasting colours, the pretty little tune it played, or the flashing lights that danced around the petals, but she would go into this serene trance whenever someone pulled the cord. It worked so well that we would sometimes play it over and over for hours on end just to keep her calm and happy.
While I think my husband and I suffered from nightmares of psychadelic singing flowers dancing around our heads, it was worth it for a happy baby – even if only temporary. Those first few months you take whatever you can get!
