Before my baby was born I had fully stocked the cupboards with all things necessary suggested by my mom friends, including a vitamin D supplement, (recommended for breastfed babies). I don’t know why “they” insist on making everything for kids so sugary sweet! These babies have not had sugar, so they do not need to be coaxed into taking this vitamin by a sweet taste. So I was not surprised when my baby gagged on the vitamin D supplement I bought for her at the grocery store.
When I told my midwife about her rejection of the syrup, she suggested an alternative – a supplement from a naturopath. The supplement only requires the baby to take one drop a day to get the recommended amount of vitamin D. Now S sees the vitamin D bottle and happily opens her mouth for her one drop a day! To find out more about this type of supplement talk to your doctor, midwife, or local naturopath.
