Super Sigg Saves The Environment!

Sigg is celebrating their 100 year anniversary this year, and since all the hype about plastics started, this Swiss company is enjoying even greater success in North America than ever before.  Known for their wide range of funky water bottles that reflect one’s personal style (100 new designs are introduced every year), they also make bottles in 0.3l, 0.4l, and 0.6l sizes for children.

My son got his first Sigg bottle last year when we visited Germany, but since then Sigg has come out with a new kid’s bottle lid system that makes it easier for little ones to get hydrated (they now flip up and stay open).  Last week, I bought my son the Safari Fun (pictured left above) bottle and also purchased the optional kids grip handle, which turns it into a sippy cup.

A few things to consider with this product – Sigg bottles will leak if turned upside down, and because they are made of aluminum they may dent easily.  However, given all the colour and design choices, your entire family will love these bottles, and you’ll feel good about doing your part for the environment (while looking cool).  Available at various retailers and on-line, starting at $24.99.

Update: I’ve just been made aware that Sigg bottles manufactured prior to August 2008 contain bottle liners contain trace amounts of BPA.  At this time, Sigg is stating that while liners pre-August 2008 do contain trace amounts of BPA, their bottles have been tested and are not showing signs of leaching BPA into liquids contained in these bottles.  Check out the Sigg site for updates and further information.
