I love, love, love baby showers. I am SO excited that my fabulous fellow Spilt Milk Moms are threw me my shower. There is only one slight downside to their wonderful generosity and that is that I hate, hate, hate registering for gifts. It’s not really that I don’t like gifts (because, really, who doesn’t?), and although I think in this day and age people would rather be guided to a gift the recipient really wants than have to troll the mall all day hoping to find something they *might* like, I really hate having to pick somewhere to have my registry. Gone are the heady days of department stores carrying everything you could ever want (or perhaps our wants have outgrown the amount of stock a department store can carry), and who really wants to register at numerous locations?
So I was sitting around trying to decide if it would be obnoxious to create an excel spreadsheet instead of a registry and ask someone to “manage” it when I discovered Wishpot. Wishpot might just be one of the best internet inventions EVAH! Basically you create an account on Wishpot and then download a little button that sits in your browser toolbar. Whenever you go to a site that has an item that you would like, you just click on the button and it’s added to your registry. It’s as simple as that! You can manage, share and update your registry whenever you want. It is so unbelievably easy – guests can click through to the items and purchase them from the online links or mark the item as “reserved” (to stop duplication) and purchase them in-store. I love that I can add items directly from Etsy or from a manufacturer’s site and my friends or family can then buy them from wherever is easiest (or cheapest) for them. I also love that because it’s based on-line I can send it internationally and people can arrange delivery or send the items themselves.
Beyond the obvious realms of babies and weddings, I think Wishpot would be absolutely amazing for Christmas and birthdays. No need to send each set of grandparents a separate list of what little Susie would like for Christmas – just put up one list and they can pick and choose to their hearts content (and it limits the number of returns for you). I would definitely appreciate a Wishpot list for my impossible-to-buy-for teenage nieces and nephews!

Emily is very proud to be one of the Spilt Milk Moms ‘founding mothers’ as well as being Mama to “Little Miss” (who was born in August 2009) and Wifelet to her Husbando. She spent seven years living in London which helped her to develop a keen eye for amazing products from around the world. As an actress and producer, Emily ensured her place in hell with over 3 years in children’s advertising (her job was “to create want where there is no need!”) but looks to undo the damage by finding the best things around for mamas and little ones. Emily is always ready with fresh baking, a silly song, or a glass of chardonnay and is renowned for always being overdressed and having a killer collection of heels that she’s not afraid to wear (even whilst babywearing!).
