This Mom Has An Agenda – And A Giveaway!

I am a bit of an organization freak, especially when it comes to time. Little Miss is still so small that she doesn’t have much to sort out, but my husband, on the other hand, is the king of double bookings and “but I didn’t know!”  So, despite our networked computers and blackberries, I still needed an obvious and simple solution.  I had heard a lot of buzz about momAgenda, and when I saw their Wall Calendar I became ridiculously excited.  momAgenda was kind enough to send me one to review and I have to say that while waiting for it to arrive I felt like a kid waiting for Christmas.

The calendar is set up brilliantly and each date has one large box (which as the mom and chief household organizer I claimed for my schedule) and then underneath the day there are an additional FOUR lines making it easy to track up to four kids (or a kid, a husband, a dog and various birthdays in my case).

The other thing I REALLY like is that there is plenty of room to actually write some details – normal sized calendars never fit what I have to include, never mind multiple appointments.  You can definitely tell this is a product designed by a mom!

The only thing I would have liked to see included with the calendar (and maybe this is just me) was some different coloured pens to write each person’s details in so I could easily tell at a glance who has stuff on each day.  It’s not the end of the world that they didn’t come included (or that I could have added them on to my order) as it’s nothing a quick stop to Staples won’t fix, but you know what it’s like when you feel you need to have something before you can properly use something*.

The momAgenda wall calendars normally sell for $19.99 US but right now they’re on sale for $13.97 (score!)

*Obviously I was so excited to use the calendar that not having a couple of felt pens didn’t stop me!

My big thing is making lists – lists for groceries, lists for chores, lists for errands. When I think of something I add it into one of the lists and then I don’t worry about it – it is written down and I know I will get to it.

i am a list maker as well, i actually make lists of the lists that i need to compile! at work, my desk, my laptop, the cupboards and basically anything with a surface is covered in post-its!!!!

i actually get excited when i need to make a new list, and i make lists of ridiculous things…..plus i live and breath my iphone calendar and make sure my purse always has room for my daytimer, i’m completely LOST without it!!

  3. Mary Says:

I have a notebook-stlye (old-school) planner that has plenty of room for me to jot down grocery lists, notes, etc. The boxes for each day of the month is big enough for me to write in appointments.

My son is always asking me to find a specific toy. It was impossible to find one little car in the mess of toys that fill this house. My tip is to assign different buckets for different toy types. If toys are always put away at the end of the day it makes it a lot easier to search one bucket for a toy rather than fifteen.

I dont know how original it is- but I am a list girl! I make lists for everything. It helps me stay on track during the day and accountable at the end of the night!

I write everything down on a calendar. Each night I take a quick look and remind myself what we are doing the next day and at what time. I am still on maternity leave so, this is filled with Mother Goose, swimming lessons, Cradle Club and coffee dates. I am sure the entries will change once I get back to work.

Not sure if this is what you had in mind. But, in order to get more done around the house this year, I have started a weekly “to do” list. I have certain chores that I do each day of the week so that I stay on top of the chores. I also have small chores for my husband to do before bed each night (i.e. taking out trash, going through mail, paying bills, etc.) It’s only been one month, but so far things run much more smoothly around here!

Buy several vinyl folders w/ velcro closures. One for each area on your to-do list, it helps me keeps bills and other important documents from getting lost or crumpeled as I take it from home to work to doctors, etc. They are very inexpensive and the colors keep everything in site.

I try to have specific spots for everything. For example when I get home I always put my keys in the same place.

My best organizational tip is using a planner to track appointments and making lists and posting them on the fridge.

I’m not great with organization, but we recently started doing this and so far it’s going great! We got one of those hanging sweater compartment thingies that hang in the closet. They have 6 boxes and my 2 daughters have put an outfit for each day in it, so in the morning they know exactly what to wear! They were excited and so was I.

We are really making an effort to keep track of our finances so that we can budget properly when the little one arrives in a few months. Our method is to file receipts in individual envelopes that represent our expenses ie. Groceries, car, entertainment etc. At the end of the month, we go through our receipts and get a sense of what we actually spend on those things. It’s very eye opening and is helping us be more mindful.

  17. Dana Savage Says:

To keep organized on what we spend on our little guy, we have a special account where we set aside money each pay cheque. When something big comes up like he needs a new car seat or we want to put him in swimming lessons, the money is there.

  18. Diana PS Says:

When it comes to be organized for shopping, I have a preprinted list of staples( like milk, eggs, fruit, dish soap, dog food ect) that I have taked to the fridge. When we get low on something, I circle it so I know when I get groceries what I need. I also have a few blank lines to add anything else that I may need. Works like a charm!!

  19. Diana PS Says:

I also have a daytimer that is a full month spread out over 2 pages so I can see everything for the month…helps me be prepared and know what we have booked that month!!

  20. Dana Savage Says:

To prepare myself for the next day, I pick out my clothes and my little guys clothes the night before. I also go through the diaper bag and make sure everything needed is in there. I also pack his bag if he has swimming lessons or we are planning to go to the library. That way, we are a little more organized for the day ahead.

  21. Monica Says:

Tip of the day….have multiple laundry baskets and train your family to put their dirty clothes in the correct basket. Less sorting on laundy day. We have one for darks, one for lights and one for dress clothes.

  22. Dana Savage Says:

I try to decide what I am going to make for dinner for the week and do one big shop a week rather than a million trips to the store.

  23. Dana Savage Says:

To keep my little guys toys organized, I have two baskets. Each day I bring out a different basket for him to play with so, he doesn’t get bored with his toys. Toys get put away each night and the other basket comes out.

  24. Dana Savage Says:

My son goes through a lot of bibs in one day so, to keep track of them all, as soon as one is ready for the laundry, I put in a special mesh bag. Once I do laundry they are all together and the velcro on them doesn’t ruin any of the other clothing in the wash.

  25. Dana Savage Says:

My husbands organization tip that he does is empty out all his pocket when he gets home so, things don’t end up in the laundry or all over the house.
