Natursutten Pacifiers

NatursuttenI LOVE the idea of Natursutten pacifiers for babies.  Why?  Because:

  • they are produced from all-natural rubber from the Hevea brasiliensi tree;
  • they are free of toxins (including Bisphenol A), allergens, carcinogens, phthalates, silicone, and artificial colours;
  • the ventilation holes on the shield prevent skin irritation;
  • they are molded in one solid piece, and are therefore more hygienic than those consisting of a separate nipple and shield construction (those of you who have had to pick hair, lint, dirt, dried up drool, and other goodies out of your child’s soother know exactly what I am talking about);
  • they are are soft and pliable, adapting to your child’s soft palate as it moves.

Now, you may have noticed that I said that I ‘love the idea’ of these pacifiers for babies.  When I first heard about Natursutten soothers, I was immediately sold on them, specifically because of their single mold cast and Eco-friendliness, and I purchased one each of the Natural Rubber Round Pacifiers and Natural Rubber Orthodontic Pacifiers.  I was really excited to throw out the other soothers in my house and for my son, then about nine months old, to switch to this brand.  And that’s where my plan fell apart.  My son refused to use either of the Natursutten pacifiers, dramatically spitting them out every time I tried to substitute them for his ‘regulars’, and I ended up having to store them for his future sibling.  I figured that the key was to start using these soothers right away instead of introducing other brands first.

Well, Baby Charlotte was born in September, and I didn’t even mess about with other brands – I popped a Natursutten pacifier in her mouth the moment I thought she was ready for some soother soothing.  And then she made the loudest retching sound I’ve ever heard a baby make – she is definitely not a fan of the orthodontic Natursutten.  That’s right – Charlotte will only use the round Natursutten pacifier … and honestly, I’m okay with that.

Natursutten pacifiers cost about $8-10 CAD, and can be purchased from on-line retailers Baby Naturopathics, Crocodile Baby, and Amazon.
