My Baby Is A Buddha Baby

I first admired Baby Buddha Gear’s Breathetech Stretchy Baby Carrier while at a wedding three years ago.  The baby riding around in her Baby Buddha looked so comfortable.  In fact she was napping- facing outward!  After quizzing the baby-wearing mom mercilessly, I was delighted to learn that her carrier was made in Vancouver.  I ordered my own carrier directly from Baby Buddha Gear for my 2-month old son and have been in love with it ever since!

Since I purchased my Baby Buddha Breathetech Stretchy Baby Carrier, the Baby Buddha Gear collection has expanded to include Organic Bamboo Stretchy Baby Carriers and Organic Hemp Stretchy Baby Carriers – all three carriers are available in four sizes and in a variety of colours.  Baby Buddha carriers range in price from $89 to $129 CAD, and the company does offer some carriers at clearance prices.  Besides being a Canadian-based company whose mission is to “bring customers an extremely comfortable baby carrier and a better way of living through respect for our environment”, Baby Buddha Gear also boasts the company’s commitment to:

  • the use of non-toxic materials and dyes.
  • the use of organic textiles.
  • the use of eco-friendly packaging.
  • fair wages.

The Baby Buddha carrier can be worn in 5 different positions, accommodating your newborn through to toddlerhood. The carrier is a three-piece unit, which can seem a bit daunting when it arrives in its eco-friendly pouch, but thank goodness (!) Baby Buddha’s website offers a video demonstration on how to wear the Baby Buddha in each of its five different positions.  After one viewing and a couple practice runs using a doll, it was a piece of cake to use; however, because using the back position does require the assistance of another adult to position baby correctly, I switched to a different carrier when Little K was old enough to ride on my back.

I’ve worn my babies in my Baby Buddha Gear carrier in the heat of summer (wicking fabric!) and in the cold of an Alaskan winter – I just zipped my winter coat right up over baby.  Conveniently, the Baby Buddha can be thrown in the washer and dryer.  I’ve been enjoying my Baby Buddha for three years now, with K and again with Little K, and can attest to Baby Buddha Gear’s claim of producing an extremely comfortable baby carrier.  If you’re not as happy with your carrier as I was with mine, you have 30 days to return or exchange it.  How can you go wrong with that?

Note: Health Canada and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission have recently issued recalls for two sling carriers made by Infantino following the deaths of three infants last year.  The current safety concerns do NOT apply to Baby Buddha Gear’s carriers.  In fact, the Baby Buddha three-piece carriers are a great alternative to the basic sling, and the company suggests that parents visit the Babywearing International site for further safety information and baby wearing advice.
