Using a pacifier is something we knew we’d do with our son, but there are so many choices out there that we didn’t know how to begin deciding on which one to choose. Then there’s that whole thing where babies often decide for themselves which ones they prefer. Our prenatal class instructor recommended we use the GumDrop Pacifier from Hawaii Medical and I’m glad we did.
The GumDrop Pacifier is all one piece made of medical quality silicone and they are Phthalate, latex, and BPA free. I love the one-piece design, which makes them easy to clean, and I don’t have to worry about the pacifier coming apart or collecting dirt in weird crevices. I also love them because they are microwave sterilizer safe, which means I can wash and sterilize them with the rest of the assorted baby bottle gear.
GumDrop Pacifiers have a hole in the handle for attaching a pacifier clip so you don’t lose them while you’re out and about, and they are available in a variety of colours (blue, lavender, pink and orange) and scents (yummy vanilla or natural unscented). I found that the vanilla scent only lasted for a few months before it wore off, but it was great while it lasted.
We started using the GumDrop Pacifiers with Isaac when he was three months old and he took right to them. We used them all the time, while he was awake if he was fussy, to help him soothe himself to sleep, and to keep him calm while in his car seat. They definitely were a sanity saver on many occasions. And the most surprising thing of all, he self-weaned himself off of them when he turned nine months old! I had planned on reducing his usage of them at one year of age, but at nine months he just stopped using them on his own by spitting them right out whenever we tried to pop one in. Now, I don’t know if that’s some sort of pacifier voodoo that comes with the GumDrop, but I can say for sure that we’ll be using them again when the next kid comes along (fresh new ones, of course, I have to get more of the vanilla scented ones – yum!).
GumDrop Pacifiers can be bought online directly from Hawaii Medical’s website, for $1.75 US each, but I recommend the Buy 6 get 1 Free for $10.50US Value Pack they offer. You can get a variety of different colours and flavours this way and, if you’re like me, keep a bunch of them in rotation at once (one for dropping in the dirt, one for the baby bag, two for the crib for finding in the dark, and one for his mouth!).

I see these everywhere (especially on Baby Story) and have never been able to find them in stores! Thanks for the info …
I ordered 4 of these after my Hunter was born. We bought like 3 different brands of pacifiers before he was born and he didn’t want any of them. He was in love with the soothie that the hospital gave him but that things was so much heavier and not as attractive as the gumdrop. I love the colors, the scent, and the shape. I love the gumdrop period!
