Pardon the pun, but it’s refreshing to see a water bottle on the market that not only stands out but also stands alone in the areas of convenience and portability (as a mom, I demand both!). I’m so glad that US company Vapur agreed to send me one of their cool, multi-functional, everyday use water bottles to try out.
Vapur water bottles are unique in that they are portable, portable, PORTABLE! When empty, this flexible bottle collapses and then folds up into a tiny package that can easily be tucked into a pocket or tossed into your gym bag, purse, or diaper bag. This is definitely my favourite feature – my old aluminum water bottle not only took up all the space in my bag, but clunked around in there like a ball and chain.
Additionally, Vapur bottles:
- are more environmentally friendly than disposable plastic water bottles;
- are shipped flat, which takes up 90% less space than traditional bottles, AND the packaging is printed using wind power on 100% post-consumer paper (the company also participates in 1% for the Planet);
- are made in the USA using durable, FDA-approved, BPA-free polymer;
- hold 16 oz (473ml) of water;
- have an inner layer is odour, stain, and taste resistant;
- stand up when full and collapse when empty;
- come with built-in carabiners, handy for attaching to your bag or belt or however you roll;
- are dishwasher safe (top rack);
- have sports caps (made out of FDA-approved, BPA-free 100% virgin Polypropylene) rather than the traditional twist caps (replacement spouts are available on the Vapur site for only $2.95 USD for a set of four);
- can be put into the freezer and used for emergencies or keeping things cold in the cooler when traveling;
- are available in the following five stylish colours: cyan blue, green, smoke, pink, and purple!
My 3-year old son, Oliver, was so intrigued with my Vapur bottle that I had to tell him to back off and get his own. He thinks the sports cap is super fun to drink out of and likes the bottle’s tactile and flexible nature, so I know I’ll have no problem getting him to drink water when we’re playing outside on those hot summer days. There’s even a spot on the back of the bottle for him to sign his autograph in permanent ink.
Because Vapur bottles lay flat or can be rolled up, the uses for Vapur’s water bottles are truly endless: great for school-aged kids, stowed in the car glove box, in the earthquake kit, camping, picnics, bike rides … the list goes on and on. My only two beefs are (1) 16 oz is not enough water for someone who drinks like a camel (me), although Vapur bottles probably hold enough water for most people (and most definitely children), and (2) as soon as the bottle is half full or less, it no longer stands up on its own. Obviously, the bottle falling over when half full goes with the territory, but I’m hoping that Vapur will eventually produce a larger capacity bottle (for us camels).

WHen I go hiking.
i spend an hour each way going to and from work, so lugging anything more than needed is a pain, I owuld love a bottle like this to chuck in my purse!!!

I’d LOVE one of these to keep with me when I go out with the kids. Actually, I’d love one anytime. My stainless bottle is SO heavy and hard to get water out of, I find i actually drink less when I’m using it, and it doesn’t fit in my purse. I think my kids would love the colours too!
