In celebration of Father’s Day this week, I thought I would share with you one of my husband’s favorite kid-related things, the Prince Lionheart Pushbike. I’d like to point out just how much my husband and I like bikes – before Travis came along we owned two cruiser bikes, two BMX bikes, three mountain bikes, and two dirt bikes! You could say that we like bikes!
When I was at the start of my third trimester, my husband was already online looking for a pushbike to order for our son. We wanted to find an ecologically friendly, yet modern and stylish looking bike, and we found that the Prince Lionheart Pushbike fulfilled both desires. We really wanted our child to start on a pushbike as opposed to a bike with training wheels, because pushbikes encourage children to learn balance first before mastering peddling, making it easier to learn to ride a bike.
The Prince Lionheart Pushbike has a frame made of solid birch and it weighs less than 10lbs. The seat is padded and the seat height is adjustable, and the bike has nice wide 12” rubber tires to help with balancing. The company suggests that this bike is suitable for kids aged two to five; however, if you click on the link to the video below, you’ll notice that Travis, at only nine months old, is happily riding on his pushbike with dad’s help! He has been on the bike since he was about five months, intuitively hooking his feet under the seat for more stability. The bike sells on Prince Lionheart’s website for $109.99 CAD, but we got it for less with a little web searching.

We love Travis’s Prince Lionheart Pushbike so much because it’s lightweight, stylish, and extremely portable. The price of the bike is very comparable to other pushbikes, and we know it will last him until he is ready for a ‘big boy’ bike. Daddy can’t wait for Travis’ feet to touch the ground so that he can start training him to ride extreme downhill in the Whistler Bike Park!
