I love clippy toys, the kind that can be attached to a stroller, car seat, swing, and exersaucer. While I was pregnant I saw Lamaze’s Jacques the Peacock toy, and it was love at first sight. It wasn’t until baby’s first Christmas that I finally had the perfect excuse to purchase Jacques. For Liam’s first holiday we only made him a small stocking, but wanted to fill it with special, meaningful toys and gifts.
The bright beautiful colours and textures work for boys and girls, and it packs a big punch in such a little guy: with rattles, squeaks, and crinkles galore. There is even a teeny mirror in there! I have a personal affinity towards peacocks, because we had a couple resident peacocks on a hobby farm where I grew up. They are ridiculously loud and obnoxious, but beautiful to look at and full of personality.
Jacques works for babies from newborn and up, especially because if you flip him over to his backside, the fabric is high contrast black and white designs, which we all know newborns love. I also like how Jacques is just the right size… big enough to be entertaining, but small enough not to take up too much room. I think it is brilliant of Lamaze to name their toys, because it is so much nicer to refer to “Jacques,” than just “that peacock toy.” I think it gives him that extra Parisian flair. And if I know anything about peacocks, I bet Jacques is a flirt, too. We purchased our Jacques from Babies ‘R Us, for $19.99, but he is available widely at most large kid’s stores. If you are looking for a baby shower gift, I would consider Jacques for the job.
