If you have young children, like I do, then you are familiar with the seemingly never-ending summertime request to blow bubbles. I love to blow bubbles for them and watch them run around the yard, however my bubble enthusiasm usually wanes before theirs does and I want to stop blowing bubbles before they’re ready for me to. This was the main reason that I thought buying a Little Tikes Bubble Bellies was a good idea.
(The other reason I thought that buying a Little Tikes Bubble Bellies was a smart move, is because my 20-month-old daughter is too young to figure out how to blow bubbles without licking the bubble wand, and my 3-year-old son tends to blow too hard and becomes frustrated with the entire bubble-making process.)
The Little Tikes Bubble Bellies are battery-operated bubble-blowing machines shaped like plastic animals. There are many different types of animals to choose from (pig, hippo, lion, etc) and my kids loved the look of all of them. Each Little Tikes Bubble Bellies comes with one small bottle of bubble solution – batteries are extra.
I found various problems with the Little Tikes Bubbles Bellies:
- The bubble solution that comes with the unit runs out in approximately the first 15-20 minutes of use.
- It is difficult to find replacement bubble solution that will work with the unit. It’s either too thick or too thin. You are forced to buy Little Tikes Bubble Solution, which can be difficult to find.
- The handle to start the bubbles going is hard to squeeze. My 3-year-old has a tough time with the handle and I’ve found that it’s easy to pinch your finger in between the button and the handle (I did this to myself on two separate occasions – both times it broke the skin).
Our Little Tikes Bubble Bellies does blow lots and lots of bubbles – provided that we use the Little Tikes Bubble Solution. My kids enjoy it when I make their Bubble Bellies blow bubbles for them, but more often than not I save my finger and my money, and blow bubbles using regular bubble solution and a bubble wand.
