Boogers, B.O., And Belches!

I’ve been blessed with four boys, and therefore I’ve also been blessed with an abundance of potty humour.  Sigh.  Although I love seeing my boys dissolve into giggles, I just simply fail to see the humour in flatulence.  Good thing that author Bart King not only sees the humour in bodily functions, he has written a fantastic book about them!  Thanks to Raincoast Books, King’s The Big Book of Gross Stuff landed on my doorstep and in the hands of my eight-year old son.

After spending numerous evenings listening to my son giggle himself to sleep as he read his new book, I had to see for myself what was so funny and I’m embarrassed to say that I had trouble putting this book down.  The Big Book Of Gross Stuff is 284 pages dedicated to all things gross: poop, tapeworms, puss, boogers, demon cheese, and oh-so-many more subjects of a disgusting nature.  But it’s not merely an ode to the gross –  it’s full of practical knowledge as well as interesting facts like this one: “One good thing to have when you burp is gravity.  This allows only air to come up from your stomach.  Astronauts in zero gravity NEVER burp.  Since there’s no gravity, if they burp, everything in their stomach might come up at once!” Who knew?

Bart King is also the author of  The Big Book of Boy Stuff and The Big Book of Girl Stuff, as well as a line of pocket books which includes The Pocket Guide to Magic and The Pocket Guide to Mischief.  Bart King is hilarious, but don’t just take my word for it – just visit his blog!

The Big Book of Gross Stuff is available for around $17.50 CDN from Amazon (where you can also find other titles by Bart King), or just ask for it at your local book store.
