Broody Chick’s Bug Be Gone

We recently ran a giveaway for our readers to try out Broody Chick‘s latest product, Bug Be Gone. Twelve lucky winners and I each got a bottle of Broody Chick’s Bug Be Gone lotion to test out with the expectation of providing feedback.

Overall, the lotion was very well received in terms of keeping the bugs away. Everyone that tried it said that they had no, or very few, bug bites after using the lotion. I used it when I went on an overnight camping trip with several other teachers, and we all thought that it worked very well at keeping the mosquitoes away provided you reapplied the lotion after an hour or so.

Many of our testers noted how nice the lotion felt on their skin, that it went on smoothly, and was not sticky like some other bug lotions. Bug Be Gone even worked well for one tester with sensitive skin. She wrote, “I have very sensitive skin, and often develop a rash after using lotions. I had no such problem with the Bug-Be-Gone. It was non-greasy and went on beautifully.” I personally agree, and felt good about putting this on my 11-month-old son who also develops rashes easily (but did not with the Bug Be Gone).

The one factor on which there was no consensus, and on which people felt very strongly one way or the other about, was the scent! Seven testers LOVED the smell (myself included), two thought the smell was just ok, and three testers really didn’t like it. Bug Be Gone’s scent is a result of the combination of ingredients, including lavender, patchouli, and chamomile, and it definitely doesn’t smell like most insect repellents.  In fact, it’s the essential oils contained in this lotion that are known bug deterrents and the scent is exactly the reason that Bug Be Gone repels bugs without chemicals.

One improvement that was suggested for the lotion was the container lid. As one of the testers put it, “The cap isn’t exactly baby/ toddler safe, meaning they could have easily gotten into it, and I worried that it would open in the diaper bag .… Slim design of the bottle meant it was easy to tote around, just wished the lid had more of a locking system to keep lotion in and kids out.”

After reading our testers reviews and testing it out myself, I would say that Bug Be Gone was well received, is a great natural alternative, and does what it says it will do: “Keep the biting bugs at bay.” The lotion is intended to keep the bugs at a distance as well as soothe sun kissed sun, and it does both. As for the smell – I guess you’ll just have to try it for yourself to see whether you like it or not!  Broody Chick’s Bug Be Gone can be purchased from online retailer Amazon for $13.95 USD.
