There is a huge market out there for kid and baby classes … do you enrol them in an art class? Music lessons? Sports? And at what age do you start? And then there is the whole issue of over scheduling our little guys. When it comes to music, I am lucky to have my cousin Julie Hanna (of Little Inspirations) steer me in the right direction with Kindermusik.
Kindermusik combines all the best early music learning methods with childhood development research and rolls it all up into a series of sessions for individual age groups from newborn to seven years. What I enjoy most about it is how much more it is than just a music class: it is about using music as a learning tool, to gain skills in all areas of development. The children get to run around and move their bodies, and really integrate the stories, songs, actions, and movement.
Kindermusik instructors divide their classes by age, which tailors each session to the abilities of the children and allows them to succeed and feel a real sense of accomplishment, not to mention the socialization opportunities and just plain FUN. My son Liam was only six months old when he attended his first session, was captivated by the singing, and loved dancing and twirling around with me. For his age group, I like the Village sessions, but the beauty of Kindermusik is that it is geared towards the needs and capabilities of each age group (which for Liam included a lot of banging of instruments and throwing of scarves). I can’t wait to sign up for our next class in the Fall! Kindermusik is available worldwide, so check out their website to find a class near you.

I have a white sound machine in my babes room….we both love the sound of the rain. I will sit in the rocker for hours and listen to it while he snoozes away.
We listen to music via CD each day, we have a piano that the kids play freely. We also have a ,music basket full of instruments, a recorder, drum, harmonica ect. My girls are also on a program called Brain Pop where they listen to music lessons on line every week or so.
If we don’t have music playing, we are regularly singing songs or making up our own songs and dances.
I sing to him in the car as well. I love to see him giggle and smile when a new song comes on!
I also sing to my babe when I am bathing him…..I swear he kicks along to the beat!
I also sing to my babe when I feed him, although lately he stops nursing to smile back at me and it has become a bit messy!
We sing to our son all day long! He loves The Itsy Bitsy Spider, Old McDonald, and You Are My Sunshine. My husband also sings other songs from Queen that he finds hilarious.

At 2, my son has lots of musical instruments including a real drum set, December, maracas, guitar and I could go on. My husband and I believe that music is a very large part of life and learning. From classical to kids music to classic rock….it is all very important.

I constantly incorporate music into my kids lives every single day by singing what we’re doing even if its just going to the bathroom or walking down the stairs. My oldest loves to dance and it’s so entertaining to me and fun for him that any second I get to give him the chance to dance I take it! I’ve even taught him car dancing
