Ok, I will admit it, I worry about my appearance – especially as I get bigger by the day! I’m a girl with a short waist, and with each pregnancy my cute baby bump, quickly turns into a giant buddha belly. Although I’m just over 1/3 of the way through this pregnancy, when you look at me, you would think that I was further than half way! In a vain attempt to be cuter than I actually am, I crave sexy maternity clothes and undergarments. When I went online to find the sexiest nursing bra and underwear set possible, I came across the Elle Macpherson Intimates maternity line.

Elle Macpherson Intimates were kind enough to send me their Momamia nursing bra in Cradle Print Stripe (pictured above) and matching bikini briefs to try out. The set is so deliciously soft with no irritating wires in the bra, and snaps that allow easy access for nursing. Both the bra and underwear are made from slinky knit (which is why they’re so soft), lined with cotton in all the right places. My favorite part of the bra is that when you undo the nursing straps, the fabric underneath changes from stripes to pink polka dots. I think that I look pretty darn good in the set for an average, everyday pregnant gal, and my husband gave the set two thumbs up as well.

Elle Macpherson Intimates have two prints for the Momamia line, Cradle Print Stripe and Orient Blue Floral, and each has a matching set of  briefs. I bought a bag of Ripe Mixed Flavor Kamoo Bars, and creator/mom Angela threw in a bag of Ripe Organic 5-Grain Mush for me to try out as well. Travis and I devoured the tasty bars, choosing from three flavors: Organic Apple, Carrot and Oatmeal; Organic Rhubarb, Apple and Spelt; and Organic Spiced Pumpkin and Spelt. I’m not sure which one we liked best, but I know I was happy not to feed him the same old, same old for our afternoon snack.

Ripe Baby Food’s Kamoo Bars are made from organic ground grains and fresh organic produce, and they are just the right size for small hands. Twice baked, these gourmet bars come in five flavours. My favorite aspect is that the mixture is sugar-free, so parents can control the level of sweetness. Although I already had a cute diaper bag, when I spotted the Funky Skulls Diaper Bag (above) at a local Farmer’s Market the other weekend, I HAD to have it!! Not only is it very me, but it was also bigger than my current diaper bag, with more pockets (eight in total) and an insulated bottle bottle holder. These diaper bags are made to be worn over the chest (messenger style) freeing up both hands for other things, or over the shoulder like a purse. I opted for the Jungle Black fabric (shown below), and couldn’t be happier! These Travel Change Pads have a cotton exterior with soft cotton toweling interior and a Velcro closure. Easy to use on-the-go or at home, and they are machine washable as well. I like that this Change Pad rolls up nice and small, and fits conveniently into my super stylish new diaper bag.

Starfish Kidz clothing line includes onesies from size three months to t-shirts in XL and also have bottoms for three to 24 months. What really caught my eye was their beanies; you can chose between applique or floral, from newborn to mom size. Their current line of appliques includes All Star, Hush (as seen above), and Skullz, and Starfish Kidz are just about to release a new line of appliques!

Not only is Starfish Kidz’s kid’s line ridiculously cute, but the company strives to give back to the community by donating money to various beneficiaries. Sniffs and Snuffles is meant to use externally on your little ones, or yourself, to help ease congestion from allergies or colds. We gave away 20 Sniffs and Snuffles, and with all the reviews that came in,I am pleased to say that everyone agreed that the smell was great. One of our reviewers said that it has a “pleasant, earthy smell” which isn’t too powerful, and “doesn’t smell like sickness!” The majority of our reviewers agreed that the smell was powerful enough to ease their children’s, or their own, chest congestion, and that they were able to get to sleep better. The reviews were evenly split about the texture and application of Sniffs and Snuffles. About half of our readers thought that it was smooth, easy to apply, and that it rubbed in easily. The other half felt that the texture was a bit rough, and they had to rub it between their fingers first to soften it before application. Everyone agreed that it was much less gooey/greasy than the usual alternative – which is a good thing! One reader wrote, “I’m wondering if Sniffs and Snuffles will soften up as we use more of the container.” I can personally vouch for that – although the product is a bit hard at first, the more it gets used, the easier it is to remove from the container and rub into soft skin.

Spark Story Starters are exactly what they sound like: story starters. The idea is that you read a question aloud from the card, and every member of the family has a chance to answer. Upon first opening, I was excited and pleased with the design of these clever Innobaby containers. They are compact, easy to open, and the clear plastic allows you to see what is inside without having to open the lid. The containers twist and seal to interlock together, or you can just pack one container if you don’t need all of them. I like how they all stack together for a tower of snacks, making it really easy to find the right snack in the diaper bag as all of the containers come out as one unit. Each container has a dispensing lid, which makes getting small snacks out easy, or if you needed to dispense formula into a bottle this design feature would make it a breeze. My favorite thing is that the containers are freezer, microwave, and dishwasher safe! They are also BPA, Phthalates, PVC, and lead free.

On the downside, the containers are smaller than they look in the picture; each container holds only about half a cup. As Travis starts to get bigger and eat more, I feel that the containers need to be bigger to really be accommodating to our needs. Secondly, if you have liquid or food that contains juice in one of the containers and the system isn’t standing straight up, the liquid will leak out.

I rub a little on his chest, although Broody Chick suggests that you can apply “to the chest, back or tummy or even on a tissue to place by the pillow at bedtime.” The product is not recommended for the very young; however, I used to apply a dab on T-dog’s bottom sheet when he was quite wee as I found it helped his congestion.

The Dapple Dish Liquid was delicious smelling! Honestly, I couldn’t stop sniffing it! I do have a bit of a love affair with lavender, and the detergent actually smelled like crushed lavender in my hands. All smelling aside, it did a great job on cleaning T-dog’s sippy cups, soothers, as well as the other dishes that I washed. I found that the dish soap performed just as it claims and I also really liked how fast it rinsed clean. I find that it takes a tonne of water to rinse traditional dish soap off of plastic dishes; however, the Dapple Dish Liquid rinsed off much faster. Out of sheer curiosity, I tried the Dapple Dish Liquid on a frying pan with bacon grease. It did not initially cut through the grease like traditional dish soap and I had to do a few rinse and repeats, but it doesn’t claim to. I was still very happy with the product because it did a great job of cleaning all of my other dishes very well.

I used the opportunity to try out Dapple’s Toy Wipes after coming back from the thrift store with some new building blocks for T-dog, and although they cleaned up the toys very nicely, I found them to have a funny smell which left me undecided about what to think of the scent. While I love lavender, the wipes just don’t quite smell quite right. The wipes themselves work really well by foaming up nicely, and I was able to see the dirt that they wiped off the toys! I even did a little taste test (sounds strange I know, but if it’s going into T’s mouth then why shouldn’t I do a test first?!) and it wasn’t bad at all! Scent aside, I was very happy with the Toy Wipes.

If you’ve read my past reviews, you’ve probably noticed a common theme with me: a desire to find cool clothing for boys! Not to disappoint, Fig Kids is a Canadian clothing line based in Vancouver made from 95% super soft organic cotton blended with 5% Lycra. They have both a boys and girls clothing line, and their products go up to size 8!

Everyone wants what’s best for their children, and we all know that organic cotton is great, but what makes Fig Kids even better is the fact that their clothes are bright and colourful with innovative, original prints. My favorite tee for T-dog is their Olli Oop design (above, right) in lime green. Fig Kids makes their clothing from certified, organically grown cotton in factories that treat employees ethically. It makes me feel good knowing that I’m buying from a responsible and caring company.

You can check out their clothing online; however, they are currently in the process of redoing their online store so you might have to wait to order from the company directly. Shirts retail for around $36 CAD at many online stores. Fig Kids is a funky kids label from the founders of Twice-Shy, the company’s adult clothing line, and produces clothes that kids will love to wear and adults will love to dress them in!

If you have a son, or have gone shopping for little boys’ clothing, you know that shopping for them isn’t nearly as exciting as shopping for little girls. There is a limited market of cool apparel for young boys, and I get a little tired of the typical threads that are out there – after all, how can Travis show his unique style when he’s dressed like every other one year old?! Knuckleheads Clothing has changed my opinion on shopping for boys!

A family business that was founded in 2004, Knuckleheads Clothing focuses on current styles and quality (as well as ethical) clothing designed to look good on your boy. The look is very different from your usual tees and boring pants. Retro button up shirts, plaid jackets, and greaser jeans are just a few of the fabulous styles you’ll find at their online store. My favorite recent purchase is their Outdoor Jacket in green. Yes, I did buy in size 3 and Travis won’t fit it for another year or two, but it was half price and so I couldn’t resist!

Knuckleheads does have clothing for newborns, toddlers and tweens, as well as a variety of awesome hats to adorn your little rocker’s head. If you happen to have daughters, do not despair – they have a chic line for girls as well!

As much as I love Knuckleheads Clothing, their clothing are a bit pricey so I usually wait until I find things on sale. A t-shirt goes for $28 USD and shorts average $38 USD on their website. Knuckleheads Clothing line gives your son that edgy, urban look that will allow him to be just that much more unique. If you’re looking for distinctive, funky clothing for boys, Knuckleheads will be sure to be a hit.

When I was in one of my favorite local kids’ stores the other day, I noticed a feature on a board book that had been written about Vancouver called Good Night Vancouver. Being the bibliophile that I am, I bought the book without even really looking through it.

When I got home and had a chance to read the book, I was happy that I had bought it, as it’s a nice book to read with Travis before bed. Good Night Vancouver follows a multicultural group of people as they start out in the morning at English Bay (a popular family place in Vancouver) and go through various seasons and places that are well known in Vancouver, such as Science World, Granville Island, and Stanley Park. Writer David Adams ends off the book at night with the best line, “Sleep tight, Vancouverites.” I really like that there is a book that highlights some of my favorite places to go in Vancouver, ones we enjoy together as a family.

Good Night Vancouver is one of over 40 books in the rapidly growing Good Night Our World series, which includes books about many different US cities, a few Canadian cities, as well as common places a child might visit such as the zoo, the farm, the lake, etc.

Each book captures the spirit of the locale, and the beautiful illustrations make these books easy to enjoy. What I really like is that the books are also teaching kids to use proper salutations and greetings (“good morning,” “good afternoon,” etc.), and a portion of the sale of each book is donated to help babies in need.

As September rolls around, many of you are preparing your children to go to school, and I am preparing to go back to work. That’s right, my time as a SAHM is over (for now), and I am back to teaching children that aren’t mine. This means that my time has become even sparser, and so I am glad to have found Mrs. Leeper’s organic gluten-free pasta boxed dinner kits!

Some days when I get home from teaching, there isn’t much time for making dinner… even before having a child! Therefore, it was with great delight that I found Mrs. Leeper’s boxed dinner kits, which make great meals in minutes. Now I know that there are other boxed dinner kits to be found; however, I have a gluten sensitivity and so I shouldn’t eat wheat. Mrs. Leeper’s (they make a variety of organic gluten-free pasta) has six boxed pasta kits: Beef Stroganoff, Beef Lasagna, Cheeseburger Mac, Creamy Tuna, Chicken Alfredo, and Mac & Cheese.

Each kit contains yummy corn or rice pasta (that doesn’t get mushy like the other gluten-free pastas I’ve tried) as well as a sauce mix. Like the titles suggest, you add beef, chicken or tuna; however, you can substitute in any protein you like, or omit it completely. To make the meal complete, I usually add some fresh or frozen veggies, such as peas, asparagus, broccoli or corn, while the pasta is simmering.

Okay, I admit it – I don’t always buy organic fruits and vegetables! I really try hard to buy what’s best for my son; however, being on maternity leave really puts a strain on the household finances, and so when I can buy five non-organic avocados for $3.99, I will! If I have to buy non-organic, I feel better knowing that I can use Nature Clean’s All Natural Fruit & Veggie Wash to help remove dirt, pesticides, and bacteria to get those avocados clean for my family.

Some people might consider me a bit OCD because I always (and always have, even before baby) wash ALL of my fruits and vegetables before I eat them, even bananas. So when I found Nature Clean’s All Natural Fruit & Veggie Wash Concentrate, I was thrilled! It is flavourless, ordourless, hypoallergenic, and residue free.
