Kinderville makes a fabulous set of popsicle molds that resolves all of these issues. Their Little Bites Popsicle Molds come in sets of four (one each of the four colours pictured above), hold 3.5 fluid ounces, and are five inches tall. They are made out of BPA-free, non-leaching silicone, and are dishwasher and freezer safe. [...]
One of my favourite things about travelling is the search for products and ideas we don’t have here at home. I was in the UK last March and I fell in love with the absolutely gorgeous and colourful kitcehnware by London design darlings Joseph Joseph. When I got home I immeadiately contacted them to find out where I could get my hands on them and I was very kindly sent the nesting bowls (above) and the Index Chopping Boards (below). [...]
I love eating out in restaurants (who doesn’t enjoy a night off from cooking dinner?). What I don’t love is having to put my toddler’s dinner directly on a restaurant table (which has been wiped countless times with a dirty dishrag) because anything within reach- including plates, bowls, silverware, and napkins gets immediately tossed onto the floor. Such a fun game. Our fourth son has just turned one, and is exerting his independence by politely refusing to be spoon-fed. Okay, I lied. He grabs the spoon full of food and throws it on the floor, which means we’re in the midst of the finger-food stage. After cringing through my first three sons’ toddlerhood visits to restaurants as they ate their germ-laden finger food, I was absolutely ecstatic to receive Table Toppers to try out from Neat Solutions. One of the first gifts during my pregnancy was a nursing pillow from Canadian company Nneka. Though it may have been premature to think of nursing, I came to love this pillow before my baby even arrived!
The Nneka pillow is shaped like a log, and is filled with 100% buckwheat hull (so it’s like a big beanbag). The advantage of having a straight pillow (unlike most nursing pillows, which are curved) is that it can be used to support a pregnant belly during those awkward and somewhat painful pre-natal nights. Another plus of this pillow is that you can remove some of the filling – perfect for customizing the amount of support you would like when you are using it as a support pillow. I removed about a mason-jar-sized amount during the pre-natal phase. Once the baby was born, I refilled the pillow, and found it extremely supportive during breastfeeding. Because the pillow is flexible, you can adjust the pillow’s position to accommodate the baby. Another use for the Nneka during the newborn phase is to use it to prevent the baby from rolling around on a bed or sofa (of course you would follow all other necessary safety precautions in these scenarios!). Pardon the pun, but it is refreshing to see a water bottle on the market that is different for once. Introducing Vapur water bottles – user-friendly, every day use water bottle developed by a US company. [...]
When Chronicle Books kindly sent us a copy of are you eating something RED? by Ryan Sias, I wasn’t so sure that my two and a half year old would be into it. I could not have been more wrong – Oliver loves this book AND I’ve been using it to get him to eat more vegetables! [...]
When Oliver first started eating solids, I pureed his food myself and froze the results in ice cube trays before transferring them into freezer bags. Freezing pureed baby food in ice cube trays we just an okay experience – once the cubes were in the freezer bags so I could re-use the trays for new purees, they would inevitably freeze together in huge clumps that weren’t actually that easy to separate. Not only that, once I’d chiseled the cubes apart, they weren’t all that portable. [...]
Among the many joys of motherhood is breastfeeding, but a necessary side effect is the need to prevent accidental (and embarrassing) leaks. I have tried several different kinds of nursing pads and have finally found my favourites – Omaiki Ultimate Pads. Compared to disposable pads, you can feel better about using reusable ones, and they hardly take up any space in a wash that you undoubtedly do every few days anyway for the baby clothes. I also found that disposable pads tended to stick to the nipples – not a pleasant sensation! Having tried other reusable pads, these ones stand out for several reasons… [...]
My husband and I LOVE food. Even more specifically, we love varied and exotic foods from all over the world. Italian, Greek, Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, French, Chinese – our love for food is as strong as our love of travel, so we would hate it if our child turned out to be a fussy eater. [...]
One of the most cherished gifts Maddie has received is her Villeroy and Boch Farm Animals Cutlery Set. Who knew that a simple set of stainless steel cutlery could evoke such emotions of love and nostalgia? There is something so wonderful about receiving a gift that you know you will cherish forever. I still have my Royal Doulton Bunnykins set from when I was a kid, and Maddie uses it every time she stays at my parents house. It is so special knowing that she is using the same set that I used when I was her age (maybe because in my mind there is such a disconnect when it comes to comprehending that I was once her age?!) Similarly, I really think that this set is something that Maddie will be proud to share with her children when the time comes. [...]
