Leading Brands’ SUPER Juices!

Juice is a treat for my kids, and when I do let them indulge I give them Leading Brands’ babyblue line of juices, which are made especially with children in mind. Charlotte and Oliver love the yummy taste of babyblue juices, and I rest assured knowing that their ‘treat’ is a healthy one. [...]

Ripe Baby Food – Tasty & Healthy!

I currently am having a very difficult time getting Travis to eat anything that isn’t toast with butter, or bananas! You wouldn’t think that I would be having such a hard time given that his first solid food was broccoli, and he loved it! But alas, he has gone from super eater to super picky, so when I saw a bag of Ripe Kamoo Bars for sale from local company, Ripe Baby Food, I thought, “What have I got to lose?” Turns out, I needn’t have worried!! [...]

Best Of The Web – Valentine’s Day

Ahhhh Valentine’s Day – how I used to hate you. You seemed like such a flake with your cheap chocolates and overpriced roses. Then I had child – now you’re my new favourite holiday. I’m not entirely sure how this metamorphosis happened but at the beginning of January one of my best girlfriends and I decided that we would throw a Valentine’s Day party “hosted” by our two little girls for all of their friends. Slowly and surely as I searched for ideas and resources I started to love this holiday as a sweet celebration of all kinds of love and if there’s anything us Moms know, it’s love. [...]

Eat a Rainbow Everyday!

I’m not proud. When I was offered the opportunity to try out the Today I Ate A Rainbow! kit (a product that just might encourage my boys to eat more vegetables), I elbowed the other Spilt Milk Moms out of the way and claimed it as mine. I have four sons- I’m one tough cookie. That is, until supper time rolls around, when I can be found begging my sons to please. Just. Eat. Your. Vegetables. I’ve threatened. I’ve bribed. I’ve given in. I’ve held my ground. And in the end, the chickens usually end up eating the vegetables. [...]

Warm Soup for a Cold Winter Day

There’s nothing nicer on a cold winter’s day than a warm bowl of soup, and that’s why I’m going to share one of my favourite recipes with you. This Butternut Squash Soup recipe has a teaspon of Thai red chili paste in it, which adds a nice little kick, and thus warmth, to it. The coconut milk adds a little richness for a really pleasant full-bodied soup. Enjoy! [...]

Quinoa 365- Healthy AND Delicious!

Quinoa is extremely versatile, yet I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it – that is, until I came across the website, and later the cookbook, Quinoa 365 (by Patricia Green and Carolyn Hemming, Canadians no less!). This cookbook has recipes for using quinoa for breakfast foods to desserts – who knew? [...]

It’s About Packin’ SMART

Those of you moms who are like me, working full time with a kid in daycare, you know that organization is key. So when I saw Innobaby’s Packin’ SMART 4 tier Stack-N-Seal set, I was interested and needed to know more! Innobaby kindly sent me their Packin’ SMART Stack N Seal 4 Tier Fruit/White design to try out for Travis’s lunch time needs. [...]

Favourite Christmas Recipes: Gingersnaps

Every year (for 15 years now) I’ve made these gingersnaps* for Christmas. They are a definite favourite of family & friends (one of my best friends used to ask for them as his Christmas present!) and (bonus!) they’re very easy to make. Enjoy! [...]

Christmas Beeracles

Tis the season where everything is a reason for celebrating.

This year we decided to team up with The Beer Wrangler and suggest some interesting beers and ales for you to try over the holidays. Most of these beers are based on traditional recipes that have been around for ages and basically fall into two categories – winter warmers or spiced Christmas beers. Winter warmers are rich, malty and stronger than your average beer (5.5 – 7%) while spiced Christmas beers can be of any style but that has also had sweet spices added (nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, allspice), they too are stronger than average in alcohol content (5.5 – 10%).

These beers would make great gifts for those hard to buy men (and women – women are now the fastest growing demographic of beer drinkers) so this year why not try a few and have your very own Christmas beeracle! [...]

The Best of Martha Stewart: Halloween Handbook

The Best of Martha Stewart: Halloween Handbook is filled with great ideas for decorating, food, and costumes. If you don’t think you can draw perfect images of cats, vultures, rats and more, the book includes templates for many of the crafts described. However, I did some searching on the Martha Stewart website and found all of the decorating templates from my book on the site. [...]

Hello, Halloween!

My mom made every one of me and my siblings’ birthday cakes when we were growing up. We would race home from school and there, on the dining room table, would be the most beautiful cake anyone had ever seen. (It helped that my mom decorated wedding cakes for a living when I was young.) Although I can’t claim to have anywhere near the cake-decorating talent my mom showcases, I too have made a point of decorating each and every one of my children’s birthday cakes. It’s a lot of work, but I love seeing their faces when they run in the door after school and see their very own birthday cake in the middle of the dining room table- sometimes it’s even the most beautiful cake anyone has ever seen. Hello, Cupcake! has become my favorite idea and recipe book for my boys’ birthdays. After eight years and four children worth of cake decorating, I find cupcakes such a nice change from sheet cakes, cut-out cakes, and even character cakes. [...]

Glass Markers with a Sense of Humour!

I saw these Party People Glass Markers by Dutch company Vacu Vin in the store the other day, and I spent probably ten minutes laughing to myself at these clever little characters. How could I not find them funny when not only did they have the most hilarious, unique, colourful, and funky shapes, but all twelve were assigned names like Sneaky, Macho, Naughty, Veggie, Honest, and Mysterious? [...]

Never Buy Salad Dressing Again!

A few years ago, one of my good friends passed on her favourite salad dressing recipe to me. She swore high and low that it was really easy to make, and once I began making my own using her recipe, I found out she was right. I also stopped buying pre-made salad dressings forever! [...]

Inviting Mrs. Leepers To Dinner

As September rolls around, many of you are preparing your children to go to school, and I am preparing to go back to work. That’s right, my time as a SAHM are over (for now), and I am back to teaching children that aren’t mine. This means that my time has become even sparser, and so I am glad to have found Mrs. Leepers organic gluten-free pasta boxed dinner kits! [...]

Nature Clean For My Produce

Okay, I admit it; I don’t always buy organic fruits and vegetables! I really try hard to buy what’s best for my son; however, being on maternity leave really puts a strain on the household finances, and so when I can buy five non-organic avocadoes for $3.99, I will! But I feel better knowing that I can use Nature Clean’s All Natural Fruit & Veggie Wash to help remove dirt, pesticides, and bacteria to get those avocados clean for my family. [...]
