Recently our family relocated from a small one bedroom and den apartment in East Vancouver to a spacious three bedroom townhouse in Ladner. As soon as we moved in the renovating and remodeling began. My son’s room was the one room I had a clear picture of how it should look. I wanted his room to have a transportation theme with one wall sporting a chalkboard silhouette of a town. I came up with the idea of a chalkboard from my mom who is the author of “Projection Stencilling” and “Projection Stencilling for Kids”. Regardless of talent or lack thereof, anyone can create wonderful works of art by following the simple step-by-step instructions in my mom’s books. In less than half a day my mom and I had my son’s wall completed. Despite the work that still needs to be done I love showing people through our new house. But I get most excited when we reach my son’s room. Everyone has loved the mural and has expressed disbelief when I say how fast and easy it was to do. Kids love drawing on it as do adults. GIVEAWAY! I love finding natural products for my children, and so I was really excited to discover Canadian company Coco & Tini’s natural bath products for children. Coco & Tini makes ‘naturally pure hair and bath care’ products for little ones. [...] I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone hunting throughout the house for my kitchen tongs – which happen to be my 19-month old son’s favourite toy. He picks up legos with them, uses them as a sword when playing pirates with his big brother, and plucks silverware out of the dishwasher for me with them. He’s become very adept at the two-handed tong operation. I’ve had to draw the line at him bringing the kitchen tongs to the table to eat with. He can pick up his whole plate with the darn things. So when tinytongs offered to send me a pair of their… well… tiny tongs to try out, I was intrigued. Could I get Kash to eat with tongs that were just his size? (This is the toddler who eats everything with his hands, even yogurt. Sigh.) [...] GIVEAWAY! Have you ever thought about pulling your hair out and poking yourself in the eye at the same time as you wait and wonder how much longer you’re going to have to be in line at the border, or for the plane to start boarding, or in line at the grocery store? And all of these thoughts were there because you have a child, or even worse, children who do not like to be still, and so you’re trying in vain to think of things to keep their brain, and them, occupied. We are into the double digits with the amount of colds we’ve had since September, and our old humidifier (circa 1981) was ineffective, spouted water like a fountain, and more or less helped us to grow our own mushrooms in our children’s bedrooms, the humidity levels were so high. Not only that, but my three year old son, Oliver, was not a fan of the old dinosaur, often telling us that the noise level of the machine frightened him. I was so happy when Crane agreed to send me one of their Adorable Animals Humidifers to put try out …. [...] For those of you who have last minute shopping for the little ones on your list, I have some great book ideas. Raincoast Books was kind enough to send three books for my son, Koji, to try out. The first was “In My Forest” by Sara Gillingham and Lorena Siminovich. My son, who is nineteen months old, loved this board book. It is a toy and a story all in one. A little deer finger puppet leads adventures into the forest. With a combination of bright, fun illustrations and a finger puppet, the book held my son captive. This book is part of a series which includes “In My Pond”, “In My Nest”, “In My Den”, “In My Tree”, “In My Patch” and two books we have already reviewed, “In My Meadow” and “In My Flower”. Looking for a pair of nice holiday shoes for your little one this season?
