My three-year-old son loves board games, which is great because I love them too. Not only do I think playing board games is fun, but I also love that playing a board game with my child is a great way to connect with him. It’s much more interactive than if we played a video game. My entire family is a fan of the games from I Can Do That! Games, and that’s why we were excited to try a variety of their games out recently, including the award winning Curious George Discovery Beach game. [...]
When it came to deciding how to decorate my son’s room I knew there was only one way to go. Wall decals! They are a quick way to add colour and life to otherwise plain walls, but the selection in my local home fix-it store was limited at best. That’s why RoomMates wall decals and stickers for kids fit the bill perfectly! [...]
In search for the perfect bookends, I found some beautiful, sculptural Zuny Classic Series bookend animals at my local Chapters store. These are heirloom quality, very special toys. [...]
I love art! All my walls have some sort of artwork and photography on them, so when it came time to decorate my son’s nursery, I knew I wanted some colourful, modern, and fun pictures for the wall above his change table. Etsy is my go-to website for a lot of my online purchases these days, especially artwork. There is something really special about getting a piece directly from the artist, and knowing you are supporting a rising star rather than a big box store. [...]
We recently put our house on the market which meant, not only was the house spic, span and shiny, we have the photos to prove it! When I looked at the photo of Little Miss’ nursery I was thrilled with how it looks, but I also thought it was a great example of how the Spilt Milk Moms live for the products we bring you.
I thought I’d point out some of the products we’ve reviewed that are “live” and kicking in my home:
* Name print (above crib) by Penny People Designs
* Giant Monkey (on chair) by BlaBla Kids
* Anamalz, Putamayo kids CDs, Owl by b.delicious (all on wall shelf)
* 3 Sprouts storage bin (in corner)
* The chair, roman blinds and crib bedding are all handmade with fabric from Nursery Fabrics.com (Thanks mum!) [...]
I recently came across this fabulous website that I just HAVE to share with you all… www.saplings.ca. Saplings is a website dedicated to helping moms find sustainable children’s gifts and room decor, featuring (of course) many of Spilt Milk Moms favourites (including Homeworks Etc. , CiCi Art Factory, and 3 Sprouts). [...]
Everyone is talking about money these days, so why not start that conversation with your kids? Or, better yet, start teaching them about money and how to manage their “income”. The Moonjar Moneybox is a fantastic tool that allows your children to put into practice the money management skills you are trying to teach them. (And let’s face it, some of us could us a little refresher course on this stuff ourselves!) [...]
Cici Art Factory is the result of a lot of hard work and creativity by mom and artist Liz Clay. Finding inspiration from her children, she is able to offer unique and imaginative paintings for any child’s bedroom or playroom. She has many different styles for you to choose from: wit & whimsy, portraits, lotsa, and [...]
I love chalkboards … it probably has something to do with my former career as a classroom teacher. I’ve had a bucket of chalkboard paint for ages, and one day I decided to spruce up Oliver’s room with a little chalkboard square of his very own on his bedroom wall (he is really into sidewalk chalk [...]
IKEA’s Trofast line is just so smart. Not only can you pick the size of the frame, you can also pick the size and the color of the plastic bin inserts to match your living space. So you can still go cutesy and colourful if it’s going in your tot’s room, or you can go neutral if it’s going in your living room (the white bins shown above were our personal choice). And since the bins are so affordable, you can buy new ones and swap them out if you feel like a change! The Trofast line also comes with additional pieces so that it can adapt depending on your needs – you can create change tables, drawers, and shelves, or you can just use it as a simple storage unit. One of my favourite features is its mobility – you can just pull out a bin full of toys, move it to a different room, and plunk it on the floor for your kids to play with. And as your kids start to outgrow piles of toys, it can easily be used to store crafting and colouring supplies, school supplies, and books or CD’s. You can easily move it from your living room and put it in their bedroom to make a bookshelf or dresser. It’s just so smart and adaptable! [...]
