IKEA’s Trofast line is just so smart. Not only can you pick the size of the frame, you can also pick the size and the color of the plastic bin inserts to match your living space. So you can still go cutesy and colourful if it’s going in your tot’s room, or you can go neutral if it’s going in your living room (the white bins shown above were our personal choice). And since the bins are so affordable, you can buy new ones and swap them out if you feel like a change! The Trofast line also comes with additional pieces so that it can adapt depending on your needs – you can create change tables, drawers, and shelves, or you can just use it as a simple storage unit. One of my favourite features is its mobility – you can just pull out a bin full of toys, move it to a different room, and plunk it on the floor for your kids to play with. And as your kids start to outgrow piles of toys, it can easily be used to store crafting and colouring supplies, school supplies, and books or CD’s. You can easily move it from your living room and put it in their bedroom to make a bookshelf or dresser. It’s just so smart and adaptable! [...] When we were designing our future daughter’s nursery we wanted to create something fun and stylish but also didn’t want to spend a fortune or end up with a bunch of plastic and polyester crap. One thing we really struggled over was (weirdly) a laundry basket. We wanted something that was going to last a while and look stylish (as it would always be seen in her room) but the flimsy plastic ones seemed to start at $25 while the wicker ones (which from past experience never last as long as I think they should) were $40+. Then we stumbled across the organic storage bins from 3 Sprouts. [...] Every now and then I stumble across something and love it soooooooooooooooooooooo much that it becomes my “it” present for that year. When I first saw the above Alphabet Prints by Penny People Designs I knew I just had to buy one for our little daughter-to-be and for every single child I knew! These bright, colourful, designs are iconicly cool with their alphabet lettering but what makes them even more special is that you can personalise them with the child’s name. There are several size prints to choose from – 8 x 10 to 27 x 39 and six different colour choices for the personalisation so they’ll match any bedroom or nursery decor. [...] I instantly fell in love with Kids Line nursery sets. They make decorating so easy because everything matches! From light switches and night lights, to frames and floor mats, you can add just the right amount of ‘theme’ to your nursery. And with so many styles and designs, you are bound to find one that works for you. [...] Graco has numerous models on the market, and the Graco Ultra Clear Baby Monitor was the monitor we chose in the end. With two handsets, we can keep one on our main floor, and one in the basement, and with the light display screen we can ‘see’ our baby cry even if the hockey game is on at top volume. And it has two channels, so if one has interference, then you can switch to the other.* It’s functional, reliable, and it gets the job done. [...] Once we discovered we were having a girl I immediately busied myself with one of my favourite activities – interior design! I found a lovely pair of spring green book ends that became my jumping off point for colour and quickly started searching for bedding. I quickly found myselfdisappointed. The patterns were either incredibly cutesy (something I was trying to avoid), were in the wrong colour or unbelievably expensive (I stupidly thought when I looked at one set that the $800 price tag was for the crib only to discover that’s how much the bedding set was!!!) Within two weeks I realised I was going to have to take the matter into my own hands and make the bedding I was looking for myself. [...] Our glider-of-choice was the Rita Glider and Ottoman, available only at Costco on-line. We basically selected this glider based on price – it seemed to be the most reasonable in regards to value for your money. Most of the features were comparable to other gliders on the market, but retailing at $299, the Rita Glider was priced anywhere from $50 to $300 less. [...] After lots of on-line searching I discovered Djeco, a French company that makes adhesive wall height charts. Well designed and beautifully illustrated, Djeco makes four charts: Friends From Amazon (pictured above), Animals, Princess Margueritte, and Fantastic Knight. My favorite part about these charts – the stickers are removable and can be reapplied, so no worrying about removing them to paint the wall or leaving your homemade chart behind when you move. [...]
