I have been looking for a personalized necklace to celebrate Maisie’s birth since before she was even born. I didn’t want anything that screamed “family necklace” or was too cutesy, and it had to go well with my other day-to-day jewellery (a combination of Tiffany & Co, Hot Diamonds & Joy Everley Designs.) (Yes, I’ll be honest – I’m picky!) Shortly before Christmas, I discovered Naomi Gray Designs and fell head over heels in love with the My Little Angel necklace (above) in silver. This beautiful necklace features a hand stamped heart with an initial, a semi-precious birthstone briolette and the charming little angel wing, all on a delicate rope chain – it was the perfect thing to spend some of my Christmas money on.

I can’t tell you how thrilled I am with my necklace – it is SO beautiful and I get compliments on it whenever I wear it. It’s definitely become my day-to-day necklace and there’s something about having a memento celebrating my lovely girl so close to my heart that makes me smile every time I see it. I seriously considered purchasing the Birthstone Mini Ring Necklace as well – I’m thinking it might be the perfect gift for my mum’s birthday this year. I’ve also fallen in love with the Big Love Ring and may need to send Husbando some serious hints before my birthday. The entire time I was growing up four of the above plates used to watch over us from their position on the stairs. I don’t know how old I was when I first noticed them but eventually I realised that each of the plates recorded the details of my sisters and my births. My father had been in the UK merchant navy when I was born and discovered the plates whilst on a stopover in Holland, my mom loved them and despite emigrating to Canada they sent home and had them made for my sisters. I love the traditional blue & white Delft china and really wanted to carry on the tradition with my own family but wasn’t sure if I would still be able to find them. Ahhh Tinterweb where would I be without you?

It didn’t take long before I found John Braat & Company who specialise in commemorative Delft china. The plates are available in 3 sizes (6, 8, 10 inches) and in two tiles (traditional blue and colour) and each plate is hand painted with the child’s name, weight, height, date of birth and place of birth – even the time of birth is recorded on the clock on the wall. One thing I really appreciate with John Braat & Company is that the colour of the hand-painted details match the actual Delft colour (I found numerous plates online that didn’t). Every now and then I stumble across something and love it soooooooooooooooooooooo much that it becomes my “it” present for the year. When I first saw Alphabet Prints by Penny People Designs (pictured above), I knew I just had to buy one for our little daughter-to-be and for every single child I knew!

These bright, colourful designs are iconicly cool with their alphabet lettering, but what makes them even more special is that you can personalize them with the child’s name. There are several size prints to choose from – 8×10 to 27×39 – and six different colour choices so they’ll match any bedroom or nursery decor.

Two big things about Penny People really impressed me. First, the quality of the prints is higher than I expected (the photos don’t do them justice). The designs are printed on glossy archival photo paper, which looks and feels fantastic. Secondly, Penny People’s customer service was amazing. After sorting out my order I realized I had actually missed someone and needed to add one more print. As you only pay for postage for the first (largest) item, I didn’t want to go back and order through the shop again as it would have added extra postage. I dropped Penny People designer Lindsay Stephenson an email about my problem, and it was all sorted out in no time. Within a week of the initial order I had all the prints in my hot little hands (Lindsay sent them within a day of finalizing the order, but Canada Post can’t be accused of being hasty!).

I honestly can’t rave enough about these prints or Penny People Designs!
