Juice is a treat for my kids, and when I do let them indulge I give them Leading Brands’ babyblue line of juices, which are made especially with children in mind. Charlotte and Oliver love the yummy taste of babyblue juices, and I rest assured knowing that their ‘treat’ is a healthy one. [...]
If you read my review last year you know I’m a HUGE fan of Sassybax – and what’s not to like? This is a company dedicated to making you look good! This year Sassybax asked if I’d like to give their Butt-Boosting Shaper a try. I’ll be honest, since Little Miss was [...]
Another Spilt Milk Dad review! … Regardless, it needed to be done. So down to the garage I went to grab the box of safety equipment. Electrical outlet caps … check. Baby gates … check. Corner guards … check. Cabinet/drawer locks … check. Door knob covers … check. Velcro straps … check. Duct tape … check. And one of my favorites … Patrull door stops from Ikea … check. Wait, I meant uncheck. As if I needed a reason to go to Ikea – where else can you get 50 cent hot dogs, 15 Swedish meatballs with mash potatoes for under $3 Monday to Thursday from 11am to closing (for a limited time), and breakfast for $1 before 11am? If you time it just right, you can have a three course meal for $3.50 (excluding HST of course). Now, back to those door stops …. [...]
I try to do my part in this world to reduce the amount of waste my family creates. Over the last few years, this has included asking retail staff not to staple my receipts together (or print one at all). Staples are great at holding paper together, but what a hassle when it comes to pulling them off paper before recycling. In the big scheme of things, however, it wasn’t until I received a fabulous EcoStapler from my friend Lara last Christmas that I realized just how wasteful staples really are (and that doing my recycling properly was actually the least of my worries when it comes to these little steel fasteners). For example, did you know that if every office worker used one less staple per day, we’d conserve more than 120,000 tonnes of steel per year? [...]
Toys can easily start to take over one’s house. And they often get bigger as the child gets older. Thankfully, my parents bought my son a multi-purpose walker – Radio Flyer’s Push Pull & Ride. This is a three-in-one toy: a push-toy walker, a ride-on, and a pull-toy storage/transporter for your child’s favourite toys! [...]
… Sure enough, everything my little one loved about the iPhone, she loved about the iPad. A quick search in iTunes came up with a number of kid-friendly Apps that were both fun and educational. Throw in a few productivity Apps and the iPad becomes a very useful tool for parents on-the-go. In fact, I’ve written the majority of this review on the iPad while I was out and about. And did I mention that the iPad allows users to backup pictures from their digital camera using an optional accessory? This was particularly useful during a recent trip to Asia where I was able to back up over 2000 photos that I took using my dSLR. [...]
Anyone who has been shopping for maternity clothes in the last decade or so knows that you have your choice of 2 different kinds. The frumpy flowery kind that makes you look like you’re giving birth in the 1970’s, and the awesome kind which lets you look modern and pregnant and beautiful. KSeraSera Maternity shirts are of the awesome variety, making me feel like a modern pregnant girl with fashion sense. [...]
Yes, that picture above is my new super cool and stylish diaper bag; I know you’re envious! But you don’t have to be for long because you can order your very own Maxwell Designs diaper bag too! Local Canadian mom/designer, Maggie Chilton, created her company Maxwell Designs just before her first son, Maxwell, was born. She was searching for a diaper bag that but didn’t see anything she liked, or that fit into her lifestyle. She wanted a bag that didn’t look like a diaper bag, and one that was not made of plastic or vinyl – something unique! It was then that Maxwell Designs was born. [...]
Ahhhh Valentine’s Day – how I used to hate you. You seemed like such a flake with your cheap chocolates and overpriced roses. Then I had child – now you’re my new favourite holiday. I’m not entirely sure how this metamorphosis happened but at the beginning of January one of my best girlfriends and I decided that we would throw a Valentine’s Day party “hosted” by our two little girls for all of their friends. Slowly and surely as I searched for ideas and resources I started to love this holiday as a sweet celebration of all kinds of love and if there’s anything us Moms know, it’s love. [...]
Stuck on what to do or get for your special Valentine next week? Here are our top ideas! [...]
I’ve been going through a bit of a hippy phase the last few years. I’ll admit it. I love wide leg trousers and flowy flowery tops, and I’ve even stopped being ashamed of my curly hair. But I had to draw the line at going au naturel in the face department. My red undertones and enlarged pores just. Aren’t. Pretty. But on the other hand, I don’t like how makeup looks. I want to look beautiful, but I don’t want to look like I’m wearing makeup. Which is why I am head over heels in love with Bare Minerals makeup!

I’m not proud. When I was offered the opportunity to try out the Today I Ate A Rainbow! kit (a product that just might encourage my boys to eat more vegetables), I elbowed the other Spilt Milk Moms out of the way and claimed it as mine. I have four sons- I’m one tough cookie. That is, until supper time rolls around, when I can be found begging my sons to please. Just. Eat. Your. Vegetables. I’ve threatened. I’ve bribed. I’ve given in. I’ve held my ground. And in the end, the chickens usually end up eating the vegetables. [...]
Recently our family relocated from a small one bedroom and den apartment in East Vancouver to a spacious three bedroom townhouse in Ladner. As soon as we moved in the renovating and remodeling began. My son’s room was the one room I had a clear picture of how it should look. I wanted his room to have a transportation theme with one wall sporting a chalkboard silhouette of a town. I came up with the idea of a chalkboard from my mom who is the author of “Projection Stencilling” and “Projection Stencilling for Kids”. Regardless of talent or lack thereof, anyone can create wonderful works of art by following the simple step-by-step instructions in my mom’s books. In less than half a day my mom and I had my son’s wall completed. Despite the work that still needs to be done I love showing people through our new house. But I get most excited when we reach my son’s room. Everyone has loved the mural and has expressed disbelief when I say how fast and easy it was to do. Kids love drawing on it as do adults.

When I was pregnant the first time my regular routine was to play music in my car really loud during my commutes to and from work so that my unborn son could get the benefit of not only hearing the latest and greatest (and yes, quite a bit of 80’s) music, but he also got to hear his mommy sing her little heart out each day. These days, however, my new little one can get all the benefits of hearing music in utero without being tortured by my loud off-key singing thanks to BellyBuds! [...]
A few weeks ago, while visiting my brother’s family, my three and a half year old nephew treated me to an enthusiastic demonstration of his new Twilight Turtle by cloud b. After receiving such an enthusiastic endorsement, I wanted to see if my son shared the same excitement.
The Twilight Turtle is designed to be [...]
